FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — Bacteria from human waste may be entering several northwestern New Mexico rivers from septic
systems or illegal dumping, according to unexpected preliminary results from an environmental group's testing.
The San Juan Watershed Group collected the samples in 2013 in the Animas, La Plata and San Juan rivers in Colorado and in
New Mexico, the Daily Times reported (http://bit.ly/1lL93ld ).
Tests for E. coli in water in Colorado met state standards, but tests conducted at New Mexico sites in the Farmington area were
positive for human bacteria found in feces.

FARMINGTON — The investigation of a claim that Tri Delta Iron and Metal employees dumped battery acid into the San Juan
River stalled for nearly six months because state environmental inspectors went to the wrong address.
The New Mexico Environment Department was alerted in April by various state and federal regulatory agencies that a former
subcontractor, Rodney Wilkinson, had reported that "truckloads" of industrial-sized batteries and battery acid had been dumped at
the recycling business' property last fall, according to emails obtained by The Daily Times through an Inspection of Public Records
Act request.

plant violated water pollution laws. The Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/1zaxFql) that the EPA said Friday that the agency is
working with Farmington to address the Animas Power Plant's violation of the Clean Water Act. Farmington Electric Utility System
